Radar for 3D world with OGRE-?

Post by iblues1976 »

Hello guys,

Does anyone has a good idea or actual sample (even if is an image) of a radar used in 3D world. This could be a 2D radar with some inguinity... maybe two 2D-RADAR or an actual 3D objects in OGRE?

The objective is to help users find objects in the the 3D worlds...

Any tips, images or actual code is welcome!

Thanks,
Francisco

Sounds like you're talking about a minimap? If so, then search for that on the forums, there are loads of examples.

A radar is really just a minimap that selectively shows items of interest based on the position of the radar wave. So you'd get your normal 'omniscient' minimap going then add an effect to simulate the scanning wave, then each frame (or radar wave movement step) check if there are some objects you want displayed that are near the position of the radar wave front's position and then show them up! After a period of time you'd disappear the markers which would make it seem more realistic.

Arey,

Thanks for the post. I will search for "minimap"

I found a 3D minimap in a video of mine-craft
