Iran's government is finding out that it's not 1979 anymore -- however, it's still a theocracy, and who actually is president will not make much difference in how the political leadership handles themselves with the rest of the world.
The most interesting part so far has been the change in tactics in handling the unrest -- at first they went with their instinctive reaction and tried to clamp down with the normal force applied to aggressive demonstrators; now it looks like they are going to take the "let them get it out of their system and see if it all blows over" approach. We'll see if the youth in Iran (who are mostly behind the push for reform) stay active for more than a few more days. If they do, then we might be able to say that something is about to happen in Iran; it was, after all, mostly young Iranians involved in the 1979 revolution.
