Vegastrike is an open source space trading/combat game for linux, windows, and macosx. You can find more info over here: http://www.vega-strike.org
Its been a long time since the port to ogre3d was started and the project as a whole has suffered from lack of time/resources syndrome. It is important to get the port to ogre3d complete so that future integration of a procedural planet generator can be implemented and the 3rd/1st person engine(walk on planets/stations) can be thought out correctly.
The project currently needs allot of help in allot of different areas but the most important is this port so if anyone here with some experience with ogre3d would like to take a look at the branch and see if they can squash some bugs it would be most appreciated.

(Opinion) I think Vegastrike needs to move mmo up on there list. It would get players to be active and raise attention and development.

zomg VegaStrike is still around?!?
For procedural/planet, I hope you intend to leverage the ROAM planet rendering work that DavelexDesign has going:

No point in re-inventing that wheel, you know...
