Motion Capture kit for Ogre

Post by Goilveig »

There's a project I've been considering for a while now. I wouldn't work on it immediately as I'm working on a game right now, but I've been considering making a motion capture system targeted at the indie game development community. I think I could create hardware in the under-$200 range (modified off-the-shelf gear) capable of decent quality motion capture. I've had a decent amount of experience in motion capture software (my degree is in biomedical engineering) and while I'm sure I'd need to read up a lot on Ogre file formats, I think the project is doable.

I guess I'm throwing this out there to gauge interest in the community in having such a feature. I may or may not build such a setup for my own projects (for many purposes, simply rotoscoping video may fully suffice so I'm not sure if I'll take the plunge in complexity). Would people buy such a system if it were offered? If this is a niche that people really feel needs filling, maybe I'll step up and do it.
