Games course in Melbourne. Mocap, iphone etc

Post by Vectrex »

Hi all. Apart from using Ogre with my own project I'm also a teacher at the Victoria University (Tafe) games course in Melbournes CBD. So a bit of info/spam time. We've just acquired a very expensive inertial motion capture suit which we'll be hiring out later on with students running the sessions. It'll be affordable for the smallest studios and it's totally portable with little setup. It's the MVN from XSens and it's cameraless and wireless. It's fun walking around a building holding a laptop watching yourself! Their ad on the website is them snow boarding and skydiving for pitys sake :)

A few other updates in the 18 month course are (we're still taking applicants, starts 8th Feb)
- adding iPhone 3d games using Unity. There's also a short course for just iPhone
- Chris Concepcion joins the teaching staff. http://www.fraktalvoid.com He'll be teaching 3d sculpting and drawing and he's rather good.
- Motion capture and Motion builder. Students have almost exclusive access to the new mocap gear.

General stuff about the course
- We will be using Ogre and Unity as the game engines (possibly a tiny bit of the UDK)
- It's more geared towards art but there is a decent chunk of programming (C# so it's not SO bad ;) )
- 3d modeling is mostly using 3dsmax and ZBrush
