On the subject of the future, Samoa will be ahead of most of us now. Yesterday they changed their timezone from GMT-11 to GMT+13 (I'm in GMT+10). The previous time zone kept them more in line with america, but they've moved 24 hours into the future to align more with australia (they have more trade with us, so it's more convenient for businesses). As a result they missed out on december 30 this year.
