Next generation gaming consoles and java
I think this is highly unlikely, but does anyone think there is even a slight possibility that the next generation of consoles will have a JVM?

Re: Next generation gaming consoles and java
Not likely.
Microsoft would push C# rather than java for consoles (like they do with XNA).
Sony have adopted C# for the PS SDK that's coming out in beta in april.
Nintendo is hard to guess.
The main advantage to java on mobile platforms is that it allows easier compatibility over a wide range of hardware. Consoles are the complete opposite: one hardware platform with one operating system and games written explicitly for that combination.

Re: Next generation gaming consoles and java
The PS Suite thing suggest that they also want the same advantages than in Java.
However, C# is more likely to be adopted by console manufacturers than java just because its closer to C++ but also because C# have some ways to write "unsafe" code that is just not possible in Java.
I think if D was more mature in its implementations, it would technically be a better choice for game console language...

Java on consoles?

While I won't say it's going the way of the dodo, I will say Oracle will not be good stewards.
C# is java's direct competition, with the xbox market-share, it already has a leg up...
The only way you'll see java enter the console market is if some of the android video game consoles gain popularity... far fetched imo.
