BOMB - Updated 31/07/2015

Post by Crashy »

Hello to the Ogre community.

La Moustache Studio, in which I work(co-founder), is proud to show its first title: BOMB:

"BOMB: Who let the dogfight ?" is an adventure combat flight game, mixing (many) arcade and (a few) simulation elements, available right now on Windows / Mac / Linux.

Description

What happens when you mix Crimson Skies' fast-paced aerial combat with the humor and stylings of animated classics like TaleSpin and Porco Rosso? You get La Moustache Studio's newly released game for PC-- BOMB! In BOMB, you'll jump into the cockpit and run missions in the skies above and around a tropical paradise and experiencing the aerial adventure of a lifetime!

History

The Studio

In 2007, we (two friends) wanted to do a “Serious Sam-with-planes” game so we started to work on a game engine as a hobby. Both unemployed in December 2011, we went full time from then until now. BOMB is our first game and is 100% independent.

Note of intent

The game is about dogfight : you're in an armed aircraft and you shoot at another aircraft, simple. The controls are a mix between simulation and arcade, meaning flight models use real aircraft forces (lift, drag, etc..) but they are over-powered and light-weighted, so the flight dynamics are a more interesting than a totally arcade game : You must maneuver in 3D! Therefore, a joystick is strongly recommended, a gamepad with analog sticks is great too, but we don't recommend the keyboard experience. As an increasing amount of people were demanding it, we've added a mouse control mode. The game has both single and multi player game modes, including a solo adventure with a story. Modding tools are complimentary. Above all, this game is made to have fun!

[s]The game is currently release in "Early Access"[/s] The game is OUT on Steam and Desura

And the old one, more classical.

We also have a devblog here :http://blog.lamoustache-studio.fr/

The Steam page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/301500/

Technologies used Ogre for rendering, lua for scripting, Newton for Physics and enet for multiplayer, all of them merged in our custom game engine named PlatypAce.

Nice visual style.
Quite original to see this in a flight combat game.

Looks great!

Is it a "dog fighting" flight game? Is there player vs. player, or only cooperative team? If pvp, how well do you find the multiplayer stuff works? Did you have accuracy problems with network lag time?

This is mainly a solo game with a scenario, characters and dialogs, but as many games we plan to have a multiplayer mode. Right now only a prototypal PvP mode works with some accuracy problems. It's the verty first game I do with a multiplayer mode so I have eveything to learn in that topic.

I'm going in holidays for some days, but after that I'll be happy to answer questions.

Looks good, I like the clouds (in the screenshots on your studio website) and the plane model especially.

What Ogre stuff are you using specifically? Ogre Terrain? SkyX/Hydrax (or whatever it's called) ?

But most importantly, will you be able to battle against, or as, the Red Baron?

Here I am again.

We use Ogre Terrain, OgreNewt and OgreOggSound and Ogre Paged Geometry The water rendering is a custom thing, based on this gpu gems article, clouds are also a custom technique based on volumetric textures.

We will soon open a dev blog about the game with some technical articles explaining some of the rendering techniques we use.

I've updated the Original Post.

After a longer time than initially thought, we're very close to the completion of the game.

We are only two guys working at full time on the game, so it was too difficult for us to make the game and maintain the devblog simultaneously.

Time to update the post:

The game (version Mk III) is now released on both Steam and Desura

We are currenlty finishing the Linux port, which has been quite easy thanks to Ogre and cmake.

I must say that we were really happy to use Ogre during the port as the strong platform-independant design has been really helpfull.

Thanks to the Ogre team and all the community for the awesome work you did.

We also have a lot of minor improvements to share, and we'll submit them as soon as we have more time to prepare clean patches. :)

I wanna play the game at once but refrained to buy it after reading about the control issue with mouse/keyboard on Steam, any news on that ? I couldn't follow it lately so please shed some light on this for me.

Good luck in sales!
