Not much love in the showcase forum?

Post by areay »

So was browsing through some of the projects in the showcase forum and I was a little saddened that no one had given any encouragement or feedback to some of the projects there. These two in particular had zero replies

Glu4D - http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=76044
Your Games Collection - http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=76211

Now both of the people who posted aren't that active on the forums, so I can understand that nobody feels a connection to them, but it just seems a little rude, that these guys spend months/years(?) working on stuff, show it to us, and we barely acknowledge them. I know that nobody _has_ to reply and it's not a rule, but come on people, many of you have accomplished the great feat of posting your project up on the holiest of Ogre forums and I bet you appreciated and re-read every comment that others made about your work.

So I guess I'm imploring you all to hold hands and sing kumbaya :D

I have some trouble with the new blender exporter, and still no comments...

Is this because Unity is getting more popular? I have been hearing about it, well quite a lot, but finally when i tried the free (version 4) a week ago, I was not convinced at all.
It hides everything behind a virtual engine, and couldn't find details on how to work with it on mesh/poly level. Perhaps the pro version has the C++ API, but my wife would kill me faster than a spinning cube in a superloop for shelling out 1500 bucks...

Some people are better off not knowing what is behind the engine (ie no source code) so they will choose Unity. Even if you know the guts behind a game engine, you may still want to choose something like Unity3d because it saves a lot of time, and things are done quicker. But having the source code at your disposal is like having ultimate control - if things crashes, you know where they are - and hopefully, you know how to fix them lol..

However, I have the feeling that Unity3d is not reaching AAA game engine yet, most of the titles are still toward mobile application.
