zzip on the Mac

Post by Exsortis »

Has anyone successfully built and used a *working* zzip binary on the Mac? I've built it from the command-line using the *nix makefile that comes with it, but when I try to create an archive, as per the docs, I get this:

Code: Select all

*** ZZIP v0.36c (04-Jun-2001), yet another block-sorting compressor.
*** Copyright (c)2001 Damien Debin, all rights reserved.

Zzip error : No such file or directory
The docs that come with the latest version say that it no longer works on *nix (and, by extension, the Mac). I'm going to tinker around in the source, but I was wondering if anyone else has a usable version before I use up cycles better spent elsewhere.

He got the framework (library) working, but there's no executable program, so I don't have anything to create an archive. There appears to be one for Windows (and an older version for Linux), but nothing that I can find or get working for Mac.

Hello, idiot here.

When I discovered that OGRE was using zzip instead of zip, I made the (incorrect) assumption that it would require using a different program (than zip) to create the Zip archives (I'm using Mac OS X). So, I went looking for a project site that would contain an executable program I could use to create my archives.

Lo and behold, I found one. It was 3-years out of date, and claimed that Unix support was broken (and hence, OS X, since it's BSD at its core). Nevertheless, I attempted to build the program and found that it was indeed broken.

Well, this morning I discovered another zzip project on SF, thanks to a link I found while searching these forums. It's up-to-date, and will still read my standard Zip archives.

So, I feel pretty stupid now, but lesson learned (do more searching on the forums first! ).

zzip is just a library for reading zip, it's not a format of it's own. You can use all the same tools you always have. :?

Well, if you Google "zzip", you get this site that offers a 3-year old, incompatible-with-Zip program. That was my blunder. The zziplib SF project is 9th on the list. :?

My apologies for the false-alarm.
