After 16 years, it's finally been revealed there will be a 5th movie in the Phantasm series: Phantasm V Ravager.
But we won't have long to wait, the movie is already finished! It's been produced in secret.
The original actors for Reggie, Mike and the Tall Man are back! Angus Scrimm is 88 years old now, which is odd because he looked that old back in the 80's. Forget Slender Man, it's the Tall Man that you should be afraid of.
Here's the Teaser:

If you don't know the series, Phantasm 1-4 are about a guy called Mike (a boy in the first movie) who encounters the Tall Man, a paranormal being who steals bodies from graves to reanimate as slaves. Mike and ice cream truck driver Reggie fight against the Tall Man and his minions.
The Tall Man is assisted by flying metal spheres that contain blades, drills and other painful things.
This time Don Coscarelli isn't directing. But he co-wrote and produced. David Hartman is directing.
I can't wait for this. I've got an urge to get out my Phantasm box set and watch them all over the week end.

I have never heard of this series before.
Seems fun, though.

I didn't either but the trailers's style feels nice, in the sense that it feels serious and inspired.
Noted to check later.

Re: New Phantasm Movie!
In Phantasm 2, an ice cream van driver kills undead midgets with a quad barrel shotgun. Now that's how you do a movie!
(P2 is the best one, but I may think that because it was the first one I saw)
Here's a more violent clip, showing one of the abilities of the metal spheres.
I didn't inline the clip because there's blood and, umm, unpleasant stuff done to a face. So be warned. Tame by today's standards, but gruesome for the 80's.

The movies are low budget and cheesy 80's-90's horror with scifi elements, but they are just so damn fun.
Don Coscarelli also directed Bubba Hotep and John Dies At The End.
Some other movies I'm desperately waiting for:
- Dead Snow 2 Red vs Dead (nazi zombies. Sequel to one of the best recent zombie movies)
- The Raid 2 Berandal (this is going to be insane. It opened in australian cinemas today I believe. The Raid is possibly the greatest martial arts action movie of all time)
- Guardians Of The Galaxy (sounded like the stupidest movie, but the trailer has me intrigued)
- The Fist of Jesus : Once Upon A Time In Jerusalem (the original short was awesome: jesus fighting zombies. Now they are kickstarting a full movie! 35 days left.
Some I'm skeptical of:
- Edge Of Tomorrow (Ground Hog Day meets Starship Troopers?). It looks cool, but it's Tom Cruise. While I think he seems good in these roles, I can't forget he's a fanatical scientologist.
- Ghost Busters 3. yes, this is really happening. It may be a reboot. I don't think any attempt to bring back the magic of Ghostbusters 1 will ever work, so the only way I can imagine it having a chance is by going dark. Make it a serious action horror. If they try for kid friendly comedy it will flop. Or at least make it like Supernatural, have dark stuff but fit in a ton of sarcasm.
- A Million Ways To Die In The West (I don't know. The slapstick death stuff could be funny and I like Seth's other stuff, but I'm just not a western fan. As an australian that stuff isn't ingrained into my psyche)

Re: New Phantasm Movie!
Reminds me of Jesus: Vampire Slayer. Didn't watch it yet but read a summary of the sceario and it looks absolutely fantastic. Vampires stealing virgin's skins to be able to be exposed to the sun, Jesus having a breakdown, Mexican catch warriors....

Re: New Phantasm Movie!
Our dream is to make a comedy that is a cross between the New Testament and “Mad Max”, with the humor of “The Life of Brian” and the style of Peter Jackson's early works like “Bad Taste” or “Braindead”. Above all it is an epic movie - Jesus’ journey compared to that of Odysseus or Atreyu in “The Never Ending Story” or any of the “Conan” films, but crazier, in the style of Ash in “Army of Darkness”.
Here's what may be the greatest movie of all time: Kung Fury

It was successfully kickstarted (at over 300%) and is due in november.

In some ways it reminds me of Space Stallion, but it's not a movie.
