Introducing myself...

Post by Peuc »

Hi there !

I've just subscribed this forum, so I will introduce myself. I'm a 23 years old student in a French game design/production management school named Supinfogame (site in french).
This year, I have to work (with six other students in my group) on a game project which we have to prototype before mid-June 2009. Everyone in the team has its own speciality and as you understood, I'm the programmer :) .

The game we are working on is named Knockin'Dead (site in French and English). Very shortly, it's a management game in which one the player has to control four characters trapped inside a closed place (school, church, tanker...) surrounded by zombies. The only thing which is sure is that they will broke the multiple exits which protects the survivors. But in how long? The player has to manage the four characters through a split-screen system to they reinforce their position while finding a way to escape.

As you understood, we have chosen to use Ogre3D for our prototype. At this time, we've done the core of the game like state management, input, sound, .scene loading, multi viewport system... a lot of things are left! I really like programming for this engine which is really powerfull and very well documented.

I'll probably need your help in the coming weeks, but till then if you've any question, don't hesitate!

Welcome! :)
Seems like you've got a cool project going.
Looking forward to hearing more from you!
School projects are cool, because you are really pushed to do the best you can do!

Une de vos étudiante est passé aussi par la boite ou je bosse :)
Elle m'a parlé de vos projets, bon courage à tous!

Hope Ogre will help. I know other projects from this school will use the Unreal Engine so maybe there will be some comparison about using those engines in student projects.

Thank you everyone for your support !

I'm very surprised to discover french videogame professional programmers here, it's a very good news! Moreover when they have already heard about this project :) . It's incredible to see how little this world can be!

This year, four projects are in production : one with Unreal engine 3, another with XNA, the third with the Java Shiva engine and finally us. It's clear it may be interesting to regulary see how these projects evolves and see if their technologies are really suitable for a short term project, even more when made by people with quite low technical knowledge.
Speaking of Ogre3d, the technology has already been used few years ago at Supinfogame in the same conditions than us today for the Sonate project. In fact we expect to make a really high quality prototype even if its playble content is very short (about 20 minutes max.).
