ANyone need characters and animations...for free!

Post by guidinglight »

I'm an artist and willing to make one character or creature with normal maps included for free. Just one though, cause I won't have time to work on a whole project. I need some good karma. I'm a maya user and you will have to use the Maya exporter.

just let me know

Hey, that's very cool. Thank you for volunteering your time like this. I suggest that the model be used for an Ogre demo. Good art makes all of the difference.

Does anyone care to suggest a model that might be good for a demo?
Do you have any renderings of your prior work for us to ooh and awe over? Do you think you could swing a nice Ogre model? It would be a difficult bit of work I'm sure but a beutiful Ogre would be excellent stuff.

This is probably a whole lot of nothing, buuuut.... you *do* have a license for your copy of Maya right? Stupid question I know ;) But (for anyone that might not...), just be aware that if any of your work shows up in a commercial product one day, Alias could come down on you hardcore.... ;)

Just a little fyi! I've got an Edu license right now, so anything I'd give out would have to include a .txt that says "for non-commercial use only". 8)

Rixeh, what do you mean by "Don't trust MeshViewer"? Is there a bug I should know about?

just wondering, how would maya or any company, know if your using a valid version of their software to make that model? and would they ever really check them? also, if its ogre format, how would they ever know you used maya?

btw, im not, my projects are done with blender :p and i would never do that!

*Would* Alias know? No, likely not. Would they even spend the time to investigate every little startup company? Naw. But have you ever heard of "Project Entropia"? (I think that's the name, anyway). They got busted for using pirated software -- Max and Photoshop I believe, when they went into open beta. Publicity = a big spotlight, and companies all of a sudden want to know "so how did you make your content?"

As for the meshviewer... heh, where to start.. ;) All I can say is "code your own", because the current one is based on an older version of Ogre, and will almost certainly display some things about your mesh incorrectly. You'll be spending hours wondering "how come this isn't showing up properly?", when in fact your geometry IS correct. The best way to test content is to load it into your program!

I'll help him out - let me throw my hat into the ring as well - I'm currently working hard on improving my texturing/animation skills. If anyone wants an organic character model done (for nowt), please pm me.

I'm still working on my own stuff, so I don't have lots and lots of time - first come first served basis - but I'll do it to the best of my ability.

Once a 'contract' is made - please furnish me with details of what you would like, what animations etc and we'll hammer out an agreement to sign off then I'll do it.

Oh, just thought - maybe not a first come first-served basis. I don't want to spend time on something that is going to be wasted and is blatently pony from the word go.

But - at your service.
